NOTE: Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown in this procedure.

Engine-Automatic Transaxle

  

  1. Install the eight bolts.

  

  1. Install the bolts.
  2. Using a floor crane, install engine and transaxle as an assembly.

  

  1. Install the front engine isolator nuts and bolts.

  

  1. Install the front engine support isolator bolt.
  2. Remove the floor crane.
  3. Connect the fuel line.

  

  1. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) and ground strap.

  

  1. Connect the heater water hoses.

  

  1. Connect the fuel charging wiring harness connectors.

  

  1. Connect the three vacuum lines.
  2. Connect the generator wiring.
  3. Install the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
  4. Connect the power steering return hose.

  

  1. Connect the cables and brackets.

  

  1. Connect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable.
  2. Install the transaxle cooler lines.
  3. Install the radiator, fan shroud and fan motor as an assembly.

  

  1. Connect the fuel charging wiring to the transaxle internal wiring harness connector, turbine shaft speed sensor, transaxle range sensor and the heated oxygen sensor connector.

  

  1. Connect the transaxle shift cable.

  

  1. Install the bolts.
  2. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Install the throttle return spring.
  4. Install the hood.
  5. Install the driveshafts.

  

  1. Install the front roll restrictor bolts and nuts.

  

  1. Install the rear roll restrictor.

  

  1. Install the torque converter nuts.

  

  1. Install the torque converter inspection cover.
  2. Connect the power steering pressure line.

  

  1. Connect the lower radiator hose and heater water hose.
  2. Install the A/C compressor.
  3. Install the drive belt.
  4. Connect the starter motor wiring.
  5. Install the radiator splash shield.
  6. Install a new oil bypass filter.
  7. Install the catalytic converter.
  8. Connect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) .
  9. Install the battery tray.
  10. Install the battery.
  11. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
  12. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.
  13. Fill the transaxle.
  14. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  15. Charge the A/C system.
