NOTE: Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown in this procedure.

Engine-Manual Transaxle

  1. Install the lifting equipment.
  2. Remove the engine from the engine stand.
  3. Install the flywheel.

  

  1. Install the transaxle.

  

  1. Install ten bolts.

  

  1. Position the engine in the vehicle and install the front engine isolator nuts and bolts.

  

  1. Install the front engine support isolator bolt.
  2. Remove the floor crane.
  3. Install the power steering line bracket.

  

  1. Connect the fuel charging wiring.
    • Connect the harness.
    • Install the bolts.

  

  1. Connect the hydraulic clutch line.
  2. Connect the knock sensor wiring.
  3. Connect the generator wiring harness.

  

  1. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) .

  

  1. Connect the wiring harness guide to the engine and transaxle mount.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Install the driveshafts.

  

  1. Install the rear roll retainer nuts.

  

  1. Install the front roll restrictor.

  

  1. Connect the transaxle control rod and support.
  2. Install a new oil bypass filter.
  3. Install the catalytic converter.
  4. Connect the A/C compressor to condenser discharge line.
  5. Connect the power steering return hose.
  6. Connect the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) .

  

  1. Connect the accelerator cable, the speed control actuator cable and the brackets.

  

  1. Connect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable.

  

  1. Connect the three vacuum lines.
  2. Install the radiator, fan motor and fan shroud as an assembly.
  3. Connect the fuel lines.

  

  1. Connect the heater water hoses.

  

  1. Connect the upper radiator hose.

  

  1. Connect the fuel charging wiring to the connectors.
  2. Install the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.

  

  1. Install the constant control relay module and bracket as an assembly.
  2. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
  4. Install the battery tray.
  5. Install the battery.
  6. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
  7. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.
  8. Fill and bleed the hydraulic clutch system.
  9. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
  10. Charge the A/C system.
  11. Install the hood.
