  1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster. Refer to the System Prove Out procedure. See: Prove Out Procedure
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage using the chart.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

  1. If the concern is not visually evident, use the scan tool to retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and perform the on-demand self test. See: Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes\Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes\On-Demand Self Test
  2. If the on-demand self test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the symptom chart. See: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
  3. If DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the Air Bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Priority Table. See: Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
