REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for the backup power supply to be depleted.

WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT REPAIR IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.

  1. Remove the floor console.

  

  1. Remove the screw from the center instrument panel finish panel.

  

  1. Pull the center instrument panel finish panel straight out from the instrument panel reinforcement.

  

  1. If equipped, disconnect the power point socket electrical connectors and remove the center instrument panel finish panel.

  

  1. Remove the pushpins and the LH and RH control box side covers.

  

  1. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in cable from the instrument panel reinforcement.

  

  1. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in cable.

  

  1. If equipped, remove the screws from the transmission control selector dial bezel.

  

  1. If equipped, position the transmission control selector dial bezel sideways.

  

  1. Remove the bolt from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) electrical connector and position aside.

  

  1. Remove the two rear side PCM bracket nuts.

  

  1. Remove the PCM bracket bolts and remove the PCM and bracket as an assembly.

  

  1. Disconnect the heater temperature cable.

NOTE : Rotate the temperature control switch to the cool position.

  1. Remove the steering wheel.

  

  1. Position the hood latch control handle and cable aside.
1 Loosen the nut.
2 Position the hood latch control handle and cable aside.

  

  1. Remove the screw and release the instrument panel steering column cover.
    • Disconnect the luggage compartment lid release switch electrical connector.

  

  1. Disconnect the light switch rheostat resistor electrical connector and remove the instrument panel steering column cover, Coupe only.
    • Disconnect the luggage compartment lid release switch electrical connector.

  

  1. Remove the screws and the upper and lower steering column shrouds.

  

  1. Remove the steering column bracket bolts and lower the steering column.

  

  1. Remove both front door scuff plates.

  

  1. Remove the pushpins from each cowl side trim panel and remove the panels.
  2. Disconnect the interior fuse junction panel electrical connector.

  

  1. Disconnect the in-line electrical connector located on the LH side of the lower instrument panel reinforcement.
  2. Remove the passenger side air bag module; refer to Air Bag Systems.

  

  1. Disconnect the vacuum line harness connector.

  

  1. Disconnect the in-line electrical connector located on the RH side of the lower instrument panel reinforcement.
  2. Disconnect the blower motor resistor electrical connector.

  

  1. Unclip both instrument panel end panels.

  

  1. Remove the LH and RH upper and lower instrument panel attachment bolts.

  

  1. Remove both LH and RH lower instrument panel reinforcement bolts.

  

  1. Remove the cover and the upper instrument panel reinforcement bolt.
  2. Pull the instrument panel slightly away from the mounting position and disconnect the main electrical wiring connectors located on the LH side of the instrument panel.
  3. Remove the instrument panel.

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Adjust the transmission control selector dial bezel.

NOTE : When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.
