2007 - 2012 ALTIMA AND 2009 - 2012 MAXIMA;
A/C IS NOT COOLING / POOR PERFORMANCE

APPLIED VEHICLES:  2007 - 2012 Altima Sedan and Coupe (L32 / CL32)
                   2009 - 2012 Maxima (A35)

IF YOU CONFIRM

The A/C system is not cooling the cabin to factory specification,

and

The A/C compressor clutch is engaged,

and

The A/C system is fully charged,

and

The HVAC system doors and controls are working correctly.

ACTIONS

1. Check the A/C system pressures:

^ If the A/C system pressures are HIGH side low and LOW side low, go to step 2.

^ If the A/C pressures are any other then above, this bulletin does not apply. Refer to ASIST and the Service Manual for further diagnostic information.

2. By feel, or with an infrared thermometer; check the temperature of the condenser / receiver dryer outlet tube.

^ Tube is Warm or Hot: This bulletin does not apply. Refer to ASIST and the Service Manual for further diagnostic information.

^ Tube is Cool or Cold: Replace the condenser and receiver dryer assembly.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Check the A/C system pressures:

^ Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for system pressure specifications.

^ If the A/C system pressures are: HIGH side = low and LOW side = low, go to step 2 below.

^ If the A/C pressures are any other then above, this bulletin does not apply. Refer to ASIST and the Service Manual for further diagnostic information.

  

2. By feel, or with an infrared thermometer; check the temperature of the receiver dryer outlet tube.

^ Tube is Warm or Hot: This bulletin does not apply. Refer to ASIST and the Service Manual for further diagnostic information.

^ Tube is Cool or Cold: Replace the condenser and receiver dryer assembly.

Refer to the appropriate Service Manual for replacement information. Follow all Service Manual warnings and cautions as applicable.

NOTE:
^ Cool or Cold receiver dryer outlet tube indicates a blockage in the receiver dryer or condenser.

^ If desired, the filter can be removed from the receiver dryer to confirm the root cause of the issue was blockage (debris) in the receiver dryer.

  

^ Figure 2 shows an example of a receiver dryer filter that is bowed and plugged with debris.
