92 Nissan Stanza, Melt Down
Q:
After hard and long drives, my '92 Nissan Stanza's engine will be really hot. So hot that the exhaust manifold will glow a bright red. The wire separators directly above the manifold have melted due to the extreme heat. Is this normal or do I need to have the car checked?

A: A glowing red exhaust manifold indicates that combustion (the burning of gasoline and air in the engine) is not being controlled. If you continue to operate the vehicle without correcting this problem you will certainly damage the engine. Not to mention the personal injury that could occur if the car were to catch on fire! There is no question in my mind that a serious potential for fire exists with your vehicle. Get your Nissan into the shop and have the problem corrected.
