Jim Grant's Tech Tips
97
Dodge Caravan, Ghostly Wipers
Q: I think I may have a "ghost" that has taken
up residence in my '97 Dodge Caravan. I'll be driving along and all of
a sudden my windshield wipers come on and then turn off again. This happens
about once every other week. Can you tell me what is happening? Do I need
ghostbusters or a mechanic?
A: I
doubt that you'll need a Ghostbuster. But, if you insist, have them check
the multifunction switch. Chrysler's '96 and '97 Town & Country/Caravan/Voyagers
are known for their paranormal windshield wipers. ALLDATA Information
Systems shows Technical Service Bulletin #08-31-98A addressing self activating
wipers or wipers that won't shut off. Symptom: Windshield wipers will
turn on while the windshield wipers switch is in the "OFF" position for
one or more wipes,,,,, with the ignition "ON",,, or when the turn signal
and/or headlight beam select is actuated. A close inspection of the wipers
switch should rid your vehicle of wiper ghosts.
