'98 Ford Windstar, Noisy Tie Rods
a '98 ford Windstar and on 3/31/00 had replaced both outer tie rod ends
due to a squeaking noise when making turns at 34k miles which was still
under warranty. Now at 70k miles the noise is back. Would the above service
cost me money this time?
thing you learn in our trade is that sometimes original equipment is the
only way to go. In other cases it is the last thing you want to reinstall
as a replacement part. There are a couple of Ford vehicle's that tie rod
ends and pitman arms are a real problem with. That is the dry squeak noise
that you're speaking of. That noise also means that a steering component
is on the way out and has to be replaced. As for a warranty? It depends
on the product installed. There are a variety of product warrantees. Some
cover the part for a year others for the life of the vehicle. Ford, GM,
Chrysler, the after market, etc. all have different programs. The bottom
line is to get your receipt out and ask the question.
