'97 Ford Explorer, Blend Door Problems

Q: Is it a common occurrence for the blend doors to break on the ‘97 Ford Explorer, and would this possibly be something that could be fixed under warranty?

A: Failure of the heater blend door on Ford Explorers seems to be more common than it should be. At this time the only warranty provision I’m aware of is under Ford’s bumper to bumper warranty. The vehicle owner is pretty much on their own when their vehicle is outside of the warranty period. Ford has revised/redesigned the heater box assembly a couple of times to address this problem. When having your vehicle repaired you’ll have to replace the complete heater box assembly and be sure that you’re having the latest, most current redesign heater box installed.
