'00 Ford Explorer, No Oil Pressure When Cold
Q: After starting the engine when cold on my 00 Ford Explorer the check gauges light comes on. The oil pressure gauge reads O pressure for about 2-3 minutes. Then the needle pops up and all is normal.

A: It is likely that the oil pressure-sending unit on the engine needs to be replaced. If your Ford was really running for 2 to 3 minutes every cold morning without oil pressure you would have bought a new engine by now. Take your vehicle into the shop and have that problem corrected. Knowing the oil pressure in your vehicle is very important. You dont want to be thinking the oil pressure gauge is lying when it is really telling the truth! Its just too expensive to be guessing at what is really going on.
