94 Honda Accord, Many Warped Rotors
Q: I have a ‘94 Honda Accord 2.2L with auto trans. I've had three sets of rotors go bad . I replaced the rear brakes found the emergency cable out of adjustment but that has not fixed my problem . I'm thinking that the proportioning valve is bad because the rear brakes aren't taking their share of heat and the rotors are being cooked. I don’t think there is any air in the system, the pedal feels good. Is there anything I might have overlooked ? Your help would be appreciated

A: We’ve found the hubs that the rotors are bolted to are not true (bent). Bent is not the right word but it makes it easier to understand what is going on with these vehicles. If the surface that the brake rotor is bolted to is not true, the brakes will begin to pulsate and over time just get more pronounced. Most often the fix requires machining the brake rotors on the vehicle. The machines that perform this task will actually correct for a small amount of hub runout during the machining process. Be sure whenever the wheels are removed then reinstalled on your vehicle that the lug nuts are torqued to manufacturer’s specification. Nothing will mess up a good brake job any quicker than improper tightening of the lug nuts.
