Isuzu Trooper, Pricey Computers
I was wondering is there are any ECU repair shops out there?
The ECU for my Trooper is $1695 at the dealer. Junk yards have them for
a lot less. Seems like they could be repaired for $200 bucks or less rather
You know, the computer could be possibly repaired for much
less. But what most people do not realize is the expense that is incurred
in designing and developing the diagnostic and repair verification equipment.
To give you an idea, to buy the schematics of a vehicle computer from
the manufacturer is next to impossible. The rebuilder actually disassembles
and traces out all of the circuits of the computer. If the computer doesnt
have a removable program chip the adventure becomes even greater. Programs
for automatic transmission vehicle is different than the software for
standard transmission vehicles. Oh yeah, then they have to design a machine
to test the computer after they fix it. Did I mention that having A/C
or power steering requires different software? If you want a deal on a
computer for your vehicle get it from a junk yard. If you want a good
rebuilt youre going to pay more. As for new? Hold onto your shorts!
