'99 Isuzu Trooper, Back-Up Light Switch

Q: Could you tell me where the switch is for back-up lights on a ’99 Isuzu Trooper? Both lights went out at the same time. Could this be the switch, as I don't think both bulbs would go out at the same time?

- Paul

A: Never assume, check those bulbs before you go after the switch. As for the Back-up light switch it is call an Automatic Transmission Mode Switch and as you can guess by its name it does a lot more than turn on the back-up lights. You’ll find this switch mounted on the front driver’s side of the transmission by the larger of the 2 transmission oil pans. It will have 2 connectors with 9 wires total. This switch is pretty close to the exhaust so check for heat damaged wires before you go throwing a switch at it. Also it is critical that the switch be positioned correctly. It has important information for the computer and you don’t want the computer not knowing which gear you’ve truly selected.
