‘00 Lincoln LS, Noisy Front Suspension
Q:
I own a ’00 Lincoln LS with the sport package. I have a rubbing noise coming from my front end, sounds like the front shocks are rubbing. My mechanic says I have a vacuum leak on my intake manifold which might be causing the noise since the front shocks are tied to the vacuum system. Is this possible? If not what could be the noise? The intake manifold vacuum leak is $450 to fix, help!

A:
I just can’t think of a way to relate front strut/shock rubbing noise to a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. One part of my mind says that it sounds more like a way to vacuum money out of your checking account. But, the other part says step back and think this through. If you have a rubbing noise coming from the front end of your vehicle, when does the rubbing noise happen? Over bumps? When turning one way or the other? Does it change with engine speed or load, like going up or down a hill? I ask these questions to get my mind off how does a vacuum leak sound like a shock that is rubbing? No, no, I’ve changed my mind, get a second opinion. Unless something was lost in translation this still sounds like a,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well you know. Get a second opinion.
