Jim Grant's Tech Tips
Mercedes, I want One
Q: I'm
looking at buying a used (1983-93) SL model Mercedes. I've been told that
they have aluminum heads or blocks and are very costly to maintain. Also
that the engines develop problems with age. What's your thought? Any models
to look for or stay away from -thanks for your input.
A:
Whether its a Mercedes or a Nissan, whenever you purchase a used
vehicle you have to remember that youre buying used. As any vehicle
ages problems do occur. The one thing you have to keep in mind is that
a Mercedes is an up scale vehicle. You will be paying scaled up prices
for parts and repairs. It just goes with the name. One thing to keep in
mind when buying a used vehicle is to have it checked over by your technician
before you purchase it. Used vehicles can be great deal or they
can be a great deal more costly than you planned on.
