2000 Mercedes 430ML, Lost GPS
Q:
The GPS on my 2000 430ML Mercedes will not register my location, yet the compass portion of the system seems to be working properly. What do you suggest?
A:
Oh yes, you must get the “best guy thing ever made” fixed! Navigation and GPS systems are great! My wife is a little put out by them. Why? Because she can’t keep saying, “Why don’t you stop and ask for directions?” I tell her, “Look honey, just as before I know where I’m going and the navigation system proves it”. I was right for all those years! Yes sirree, real men don’t stop for directions. It’s just a gift we have.. ALLDATA Information system shows several Technical Service Bulletins (TSB’s) regarding navigation system problems. Installing the most current CD and commanding the system to relocate itself can correct many of these system problems. Follow these steps from the TSB listed by ALLDATA before heading for possible unneeded repairs. Make sure that the navigation CD-ROM is for the vehicle's current geographical location. The vehicle must be parked outside in a location where the vehicle has an unobstructed view of the sky. Place the navigation system in the "Location Map" mode by selecting Info" from the main navigation screen or by pressing Info" button. Leave the power on until the system locates itself on the map and latitude and longitude are displayed (this will normally take from 15 to 30 minutes depending on weather conditions and time of day). .
