Toyota Corolla, Tight Fitting Wheel
Q: I have a '96 Toyota
Corolla which runs great. The only complaint is that the rims freeze (rust)
to the axle which makes tire changing a real battle. Has Toyota issued
any technical service bulletins on this situation? It just cost me $35
to get the tow truck to remove the tire so I could replace it.
A: Isn't
it great living in the rust belt? What you need is a wire brush and a
bottle of the Anti-Seize product which is made by Loctite Corp and is
available in most any automotive parts store. Before your rim has a chance
to rust to the axle again, you should remove the wheel and wire brush
the contact surfaces of the axle and rim, so they are free of rust. Then
apply a coating of the Anti-Seize product to the contact points of the
rims and axle assembly.
