VW Jetta GLS, Power Door Lock Problems
Q:
I own a 2000 VW Jetta GLS with power locks. The key/alarm/trunk/and
door unlocker item is multifunctional. One press opens only the driver's
door and two will open the whole car. Here's my dilemma: The passenger
door lock doesn't open all the way when pressed on the key pad. It's as
if the door lock button gets sucked back into the car. Any solutions?
The VW dealer tells me it will cost $325 for a new door lock mechanism
(and that's without labor!!)

Yeah, the labor is the cheap part on that job. May I suggest
removing the door panel for inspection and possible lubrication. We’ve
already seen some corrosion issues with the door latches on these vehicles.
If it is the lock motor that’s the problem you might also find one
at the salvage yard for less money.
