Volkswagen TDI Engines

Q: On average, how many miles will a well maintained Volkswagen TDI engine go before giving up the ghost?

A: We don’t have any, what I would call high mileage, Volkswagon TDI diesel engine equipped vehicles in the shop at this time. We have one customer, a salesman that has almost 200k miles on it. But, we have customers with gas engines with well over 200k miles as well. Once a gas engine gets over 200k miles it will do okay but the diesel engine as a rule will still be running much stronger. There is one killer for diesel engines and that is the short commutes. Diesel engines are work horses, and really do not do well just parading around town for groceries and such. We do have a few Toyota, Mercedes and older Volkswagen diesel powered vehicles with over 300k miles. I would think that the TDI diesel should have no problem living up to that kind of mileage standard.
