Jim Grant's Tech Tips Pontiac Grand Am, Broken Fuel Filter Tabs
Q:
I tried
changing my fuel filter on my Pontiac Grand Am. From lack of knowledge
I broke off the plastic tabs completely around the one end of the filter.
How can I get the filter off now?

A:
Isn't
it just amazing how a seemingly simple task can turn into a headache?
If you look closely at the quick connector that you broke the lock tabs
off from, you can see a way to reach in with a small angled pick and still
unlock the clip to replace the fuel filter. Don't use a screw driver or
cutting pliers because you'll just create a big headache. If you find
that you don't have the right tools then take you vehicle to a repair
facility and have them extract the damaged lock. Believe it or not you're
not the first one to learn the hard way.
