Disassembly

  1. Secure the front wheel driveshaft and joint in a vise using protective jaw covers.

  

  1. Remove the front brake anti-lock sensor indicator if equipped, using a punch to drive it off the joint housing, and discard.

  

  1. Remove the two front wheel driveshaft joint boot clamps and discard.

  

  1. Slide the front wheel driveshaft joint boot back out of the way exposing the outboard driveshaft joint.

  

  1. Mark the front wheel driveshaft joint to the driveshaft for reference to ensure correct installation.

  

  1. Use a soft-face hammer to separate the outboard front wheel driveshaft joint by gently tapping it off the driveshaft.

  

  1. Remove the driveshaft bearing retainer circlip and discard.

  

  1. Remove the snap ring from the outboard side of the driveshaft.

  

  1. NOTE: Do not remove the tape wrap until after installation.

Wrap outboard driveshaft splines with tape before sliding the front wheel driveshaft joint boot from the driveshaft.

  

  1. Slide the front wheel driveshaft joint boot off of the driveshaft.

  

  1. Clean and inspect the outboard bearings and cage for grit in grease or any signs of pitting or cracks; replace as necessary.

Assembly

  

  1. Lubricate the outboard joint bearings with Ford High Temperature Constant Velocity Joint Grease E43Z-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESP-M1C207-A.

  

  1. Install the outboard front wheel driveshaft joint boot and remove the tape wrap.

  

  1. Install the snap ring on the outboard side of the driveshaft.

  

  1. Install a new driveshaft bearing retainer circlip.

  

  1. Use a soft-face hammer to install the front wheel driveshaft joint by gently tapping it onto the driveshaft.

  

  1. Remove any excess grease on the mating surfaces and slide the front wheel driveshaft joint boot forward onto the driveshaft joint.

  

  1. Remove any excess air trapped in the front wheel driveshaft joint boot using a cloth covered screwdriver after adjusting the front wheel driveshaft joint boot spacing.

  

  1. Use Boot Clamp Pliers to install two new front wheel driveshaft joint boot clamps.

  

  1. Use Sensing Ring Replacer to install a new front brake anti-lock sensor indicator.
  2. Install the front wheel driveshaft and joint.
