SERVICE PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT:
Follow all cautions and warnings in the FL section of the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM) when working around fuel vapors.

Install Filter Kit

1. Access the EVAP canister (canister) by removing the rear suspension assembly.

^ Refer to the appropriate section of the ESM for removal procedure.

WARNING:
Support the front of the vehicle BEFORE removing the rear suspension assembly (see Figure 1).

2. With the rear suspension assembly removed, remove the bolt securing the canister located on the right side, then unclip it by sliding it to the right (see Figures 2 and 3).

^ For now, let the canister "hang" to the side.

3. Remove the EVAP hose and its connector (see Figures 2 and 3).

NOTE:
These parts will not be reused.

4. At this time, replace the vent control valve.

^ Refer to the PARTS INFORMATION section for vent control valve part number.

5. Print and then cut out the templates above, and then place them where shown in Figures 4 and 5.

Alldata Editor Note:
All Templates are NOT to scale.

NOTE:
The drawing above is for reference to location of measurement only.

6. For rear center cross member:

a. On the left side template, cut out a hole where noted for the existing 20 mm (25/32 inches) hole, and then place it where shown in Figure 4.

b. Measure 295 mm (11-19/32 inches) from the existing 20 mm hole's vertical center line to the vertical center line of the right side template, and then put it in place (see Figure 4).

7. For rear of right side member:

a. Measure 251 mm (9-29/32 inches) between the lower rear edge of the rear center cross member and the vertical center line of the template (see Figure 5).

b. Measure 25 mm from the side member's upper corner to the template's upper horizontal center line (see Figure 5).

c. Put the template in place as measured (see Figure 5).

8. Center punch and then drill the holes to the sizes indicated on all templates.

NOTE:
For Altima Coupe only, drill the hole pointed out in Figure 4 to 8 mm (5/16 inches). All others: 9 mm (11/32 inches).

9. Prep the drilled holes as follows:

a. Remove burs from the holes edges with a file or sandpaper.

b. Clean the holes with suitable solvent and then allow to completely dry.

c. Apply/cover all bare metal with zinc rich primer (see the PARTS INFORMATION section for zinc rich primer).

d. Allow primer to dry (about one hour).

10. Prepare the filter bracket for installation as follows:

a. Assemble the collapsible fastening nut, spacer nut, and bolt as shown in Figure 6.

b. Finger tighten the assembly shown in Figure 6.

c. Install/push the nut and bolt assembly into the bracket as shown in Figure 7.

^ Push in until the collar on the collapsible nut contacts the bracket.

11. Install the filter bracket with nut and bolt assembly on the right side member (see Figure 8).

^ The collapsible nut fits into the upper hole.

NOTE:
The collapsible nut will be a tight fit and may require tapping in with a hammer to get it all the way in.

12. Torque the bolt to: 7.6 - 11.4 Nm (0.77 - 1.7 Kg-m, 67 - 101 in-lb).

NOTE:
Use a 13 mm open end wrench to hold the spacer nut while tightening the bolt.

13. Coat/spray the bracket bolt and the member around the bolt with Nissan Bitumen Wax (999MP-9G001P). Refer back to Figure 8.

14. Install the hose clip with open end up (see Figures 10 and 11).

15. Assemble the kit-supplied filter, hoses, and connector.

^ Note the position of the lines on the hoses when connected to the filter.

16. Attach the filter to the bracket, and then insert the connector into the drilled 20 mm hole until it snaps into place (see Figure 11).

^ Fit the EVAP hose into the clip (see Figure 11).

17. Connect the EVAP hose to the vent control valve, and then reinstall the canister (see Figure 12).

^ Make sure the green line on the EVAP hose faces down.

18. Torque the canister bolt to: 8.0-10.7 Nm (0.81-1.1 Kg-m, 71-95 in-lb).

19. Reinstall the rear suspension assembly.

^ Refer to the appropriate section of the ESM for installation procedure.

20. Clear any DTCs stored in the ECM.
